PHARR – The Texas Education Agency has awarded the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District with a Superior “A” Rating as part of its Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

The “Superior” rating is the state’s highest ranking for financial accountability, demonstrating the quality of PSJA ISD’s financial management and reporting system. The FIRST rating system ensures that Texas school districts are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and improve in the management of their financial resources. The system was designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.

“We congratulate all members of our Business Office and PSJA Family who help ensure the best management of our financial resources are met,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “Thank you for all that you do in continuing our district’s mission and vision to provide the best opportunities for our students and staff.”

The district received a 100/100 for meeting all state requirements and was one of only 12 districts in Region One that received a perfect score. Districts are rated based on 15 indicators such as submission of an Annual Financial Report, external independent auditor report, as well as timely payments to the Teacher Retirement System, to name a few. This is the 18th consecutive year PSJA ISD receives this Superior Rating.

“We thank Superintendent Dr. Arredondo and PSJA School Board for their leadership in managing the district’s financial resources,” said PSJA Chief Financial Officer Janet Robles. “We are also incredibly proud of our Business Office staff for working hard to ensure that our district earns this superior distinction.”
