EDINBURG, Texas – The Venom Hype Squad member Joe Diaz was called-up to the San Antonio Spurs Hype Squad for the 2020-21 campaign. Diaz marks the first Hype Squad member to be called up to the NBA in franchise history.
The three-year veteran was part of the Venom Hype Squad for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and will now join the Spurs Hype Squad as they enter their second year into action. “I am super excited to be part of this new team and to begin this journey in my life,” said Diaz. “I can’t thank the Venom Hype Squad enough for opening the doors for me and giving me the opportunity to grow.”
“This is the goal, for all my dancers to move up to the NBA,” said Amber Uribe, Director of Entertainment. “Joe is the first of the Hype Squad to be called-up, but I know he won’t be the last. We have tremendous talent here in the RGV and I am very proud of him.”
The Venom Hype Squad consists of the Valley’s top talents from stunters and b-boys to tumblers and dancers that perform freestyle routines that redefine “home-court advantage.” They perform at Vipers games and are continuously out serving the RGV community through various events. In addition, Venom Hype Squad offers a Jr. Hype Squad for the ages 8-13 and a Pre-Professional Jr. Hype Squad that run from the ages 13-17.
