MAGNOLIA – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros women’s golf team moved up a spot to finish in sixth place at the Bearkat Invitational on Tuesday at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club.
UTRGV posted a final round team score of 303, the second lowest round of the day, to finish with a three-round score of 923 jumping Bowling Green for sixth place. UTRGV finish just two shots behind Incarnate Word and Oklahoma City for fourth.
Senior Tilda Green posted UTRGV’s best finish by coming in tied for 14th. Green posted a final round 78 to finish with a three-round score of 228. Junior Briana Garza carded a final round 75 for a three-round score of 230 to finish tied for 20th.
Senior Vicky Gonzalez also carded a final round 75 as she finished tied for 33rd with a three-round score of 235. Freshman Sophia Tejeda finished one shot behind Gonzalez with a three-round score of 236 after posting a final round 75 to finish tied for 36th.
Freshman Samantha Garza posted a final round 84 to finish tied for 50th with a three-round score of 242 while redshirt junior Rachel Yu, who was playing as an individual, carded a final round 83 to finish tied for 39th with a three-round score of 237.
Houston Baptist won the team title with a three-round score of 884 after posting a final round 293. Sam Houston State’s Vierna Permata Rosada took home the individual title with a three-round score of 217 with a final round 76.
UTRGV will be back in action from October 7-9 when it tees it up at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
