UTRGV Men’s Basketball hires Addison Hollin as Special Assistant to the Head Coach

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt Figger announced on Friday the hiring of special assistant to the head coach Addison Hollin, who worked with Figger at Peay the last two seasons.

Hollin served as a graduate assistant during Austin Peay’s 21-win season in 2019-20 before getting promoted to video coordinator in 2020-21.

Hollin earned his Master of Science in Leadership from Austin Peay in 2020 after beginning his post-graduate work at Western Kentucky. His work at both Western Kentucky and Austin Peay included film prep, practice prep, scouting reports and day-to-day practice responsibilities. He ascended to the graduate assistant role after earning his Bachelor of Science in Sport Managementfrom Western Kentucky in 2018, where he was the head manager during their run to the NIT Final Four.

“Addison is an up and coming young, hungry guy that was with me at Austin Peay that last two years,” Figger said. “He has strong previous experience at Western Kentucky as well and will serve in all aspects and handle a large variety of duties as the special assistant to the head coach.”

Hollin played collegiately at Asbury University from 2013-15 before transferring to Western Kentucky to begin his path toward coaching. He also worked both Western Kentucky and Kentucky summer camps as a counselor and coach.

“I am super excited to be here at UTRGV, part of this program and on this beautiful campus. Since the moment I arrived in the Valley, the people here have been so welcoming and helpful,” Hollin said. “During the past two years working under Coach Figger, I have grown tremendously both on and off the court. With Coach Figger, the fans will see an exciting style of basketball. I can’t wait to get started and become one with this community.”

Hollin is originally from Versailles, Ky.
