A Tradition of Joy and Community Spirit

The McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by H-E-B and powered by Bert Ogden Auto Group, has become a symbol of community and joy in the Rio Grande Valley. This year, the parade soared to new heights with UTRGV’s first-ever head football coach, Travis Bush, leading as the Grand Marshal. Accompanying him was the UTRGV Marching Band, debuting in the parade and adding a vibrant musical layer to the festivities.

McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E., expressed his pride in the parade’s impact, stating, “There is no greater joy than giving back to your community,” highlighting the parade’s role in uniting the community and showcasing its culture.

The UTRGV Marching Band’s participation, along with Coach Bush’s leadership, symbolizes the growing spirit of the Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV President Guy Bailey praised the students’ dedication and the band’s role in strengthening community ties. The university also celebrated student Maritza Flores, who designed the winning UTRGV holiday card featuring the UTRGV float and Vaquero balloon, earning her a $1,000 scholarship.

Before the parade, the community enjoyed Christmas in the Park, a festival featuring a carnival, food, arts, crafts, and entertainment. The City of McAllen facilitated transportation with the FREE McAllen Holiday Parade Park & Ride Polar Express Shuttle, ensuring easy access for families to join the celebration.
