EDINBURG, Texas – Yesterday, Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents seized nearly 600 pounds of marijuana in two separate events.

Yesterday evening, RGV Border Patrol agents working near La Rosita, Texas, observed multiple subjects near the Rio Grande with bundles of narcotics.  Upon detection, the drug smugglers dropped their contraband and swiftly absconded back into Mexico. Agents discovered six abandoned bundles that were determined to be marijuana. The total weight of the marijuana was 348.3 pounds, valued at almost $279,000.

Shortly thereafter, on the opposite end of the Rio Grande Valley, Harlingen Border Patrol agents seized almost 240 pounds of marijuana, valued at $192,000, from a group of drug smugglers who were observed illegally entering into the United States.  The narcotic smugglers absconded into a refuge near the Rio Grande after agents interdicted their smuggling attempt. A search for the suspects yielded negative results.
