EDINBURG, Texas –Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents apprehend 24 migrants that used a train to travel further into the United States.

On Oct. 8, at approximately 2:00 p.m., a 911 call was relayed to the Corpus Christi Border Patrol Station stating there were ten suspected migrants walking near the train tracks west of Robstown, Texas. In coordination with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) and Robstown Police Department, 22 migrants were apprehended. A bag containing bolt cutters was found in their possession which was suspected of being used to gain access to train cars. As law enforcement authorities awaited transport for the migrants, a suspicious blue GMC Yukon passed their location. A traffic stop initiated by NCSO deputies revealed the two occupants were illegally present in the United States and suspected of attempting to pick up the 22 migrants and transport them further into the United States. Border Patrol took custody of all 24 subjects. The migrants are citizens of Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the health and safety of migrants or the citizens of the U.S. they may encounter. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
