EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents identify an illegal alien with a previous conviction for a sex crime and a gang member with a previous arrest for murder in two separate incidents.

On Saturday, Weslaco agents working near Pharr, Texas, arrested four illegal aliens attempting to avoid detection and enter the United States. While processing the group, record checks for a Mexican national, later identified as Luis Oscar MOLINA-Sandoval, revealed a previous arrest and conviction for sexual assault of a child in San Juan, Texas. A judge found MOLINA-Sandoval guilty and sentenced him to 30 months confinement.

The following morning, Rio Grande City agents working near Roma, Texas, arrested a Salvadoran national, later identified as Jose Alexis SALMERON-Bustillo, after he illegally entered the United States. During processing, record checks revealed SALMERON-Bustillo is an active member of the 18th Street gang with a previous arrest in El Salvador for homicide.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our nation’s borders at and between the official ports of entry.
