Four Failed Smuggling Attempts Leads to Over 120 Arrested

SARITA, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents working at the Javier Vega, Jr. Border Patrol Checkpoint disrupted four separate smuggling attempts.

On Saturday, Kingsville agents working at the checkpoint referred a tractor-trailer for a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the trailer. Upon inspection, agents discovered 24 illegal aliens attempting to conceal themselves amongst the cargo. Agents escorted all the subjects into the checkpoint and arrested the driver.

On Monday, agents referred a darkcolored pickup pulling a travel trailer to the secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alert. Inside, agents discovered 13 illegal aliens hidden throughout the trailer.

A short time later, agents referred a pickup, towing a cargo trailer, for inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the cargo. An inspection of the trailer revealed 39 illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Honduras.

Minutes later, agents at the checkpoint referred a pickup towing a travel trailer to the secondary inspection area after the driver was involved in a minor vehicle accident at the checkpoint. While at secondary, agents inspected the travel trailer and discovered 46 illegal aliens hidden inside. Agents arrested the driver for the failed human smuggling attempt.

The cases remain under investigation and the Border Patrol is processing all subjects accordingly.
