PHARR, TX – The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and Clark Knapp Honda have partnered to help make the holidays brighter for families in the RGV, this season.

To kick off the partnership, Clark Knapp Honda has made a generous donation of $5,000 to sponsor a ‘Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry’ (DTEP) at the Food Bank RGV located at 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr, TX.  This distribution will take place on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, or until capacity is reached. At this very special “Thanksgiving DTEP”, 1,500 families will receive turkeys.

The DTEP will follow the Food Bank RGV’s mobile drive-thru model of little or no contact. Staff, volunteers, and members of the Clark Knapp Honda Team will assist with the distribution of food. 1,500 turkeys, produce and shelf-stable bags of food will be placed into the vehicle trunks of attendees. There is a limit of 2 families (2 people) per car to receive assistance. ID and proof of address are required. All vehicle occupants must wear face coverings and car trunks must be completely empty. Distribution is open to all in need of food assistance and is first come, first served. Clients may use the Food Bank RGV’s DTEP once every 30 days.

To provide additional support during the holidays, Clark Knapp Honda has begun its “Drive 4 Holiday Meals’ campaign. Now through the end of the year, Honda service customers may choose to add a donation to the amount of their service charge. Every dollar donated through this campaign will provide up to 5 complete and nutritious meals for individuals in the RGV impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Food Bank RGV has seen the number of people served throughout the entire network increase to 127,308 every week, whereas prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, an average of 64,000 people were being served. Donations received enable the food bank to continue to effectively and efficiently respond to the rapid growing needs of our community, by providing support and reinforce its network of 275 partner agencies with food to serve the community and through its on-site Drive-Thru Emergency Pantry (DTEP).
