RGV FC TOROS DEFEAT SAN ANTONIO FC AND WIN THE FIRST TEXAS DERBY

San Antonio, May 7 – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros leave San Antonio with a 3-2 win after a thrilling second half. Rob Lovejoy’s goal in stoppage time gave the RGV FC Toros the win after San Antonio FC had come back from being down 2-0.

Both teams started the first half pressuring high and finding opportunities. RGV’s Devin Perales denied Greg Cochrane in the 20th minute. In the 39th minute, Shawn Chin volleyed a great cross from Bobby Moseley that went straight to the hands of Perales. The first half ended scoreless.

The Toros started the second half strong and orchestrated quality possessions. Rio Grande Valley would take the lead in the 69th minute when Rob Lovejoy found the net. Mauro Manotas would extend the lead in the 72nd minute after a costly San Antonio turnover. San Antonio’s Manolo Sanchez would bring one back for San Antonio in the 79th minute after a Greg Cochrane assist. Shawn Chin’s header tied the game 2-2 for San Antonio at the 84th minute. The RGV FC Toros would find victory in stoppage time. After another San Antonio turnover, Rob Lovejoy dribbled the ball from the half and found his shot to seal the game.

The game was the first of four encounters between the two teams. The next matchup between the two teams is on Wednesday, May 25. The Toros head back home to face Real Monarchs SLC.  The Toros were victorious the last time the two teams faced each other with a Jose Escalante goal for a 1-0 win.
