Musical Duet to Perform French Music Tribute at IMAS

McAllen, TX—Visit the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) for an afternoon of music and learning on Saturday, July 17 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. The community is invited to enjoy a special music tribute exploring the history French music. Hannah Moreno, Soprano, and Qize Liu, Pianist, will be performing and speaking on French opera, the French song mélodies, and solo piano works by composers such as Ravel, Poulenc, Debussy, Gounod, and many others. 

After studying remotely in the Rio Grande Valley this past year, the duo is excited to perform again in-person. While their goal is for audience to gain a brief understanding of French music, they are thrilled to be able to provide this experience and share their passion and talent with the community. 

Hannah Moreno, a native of McAllen, is currently studying her Voice Performance and Literature Master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Nicole Cabell. Hannah has a bachelor’s degree in Voice Performance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and was a student of Rebecca Coberly, with a second degree in Biology. Hannah was also part of the Apprentice program at the Cornish American Song Institute in England where she performed and participated in masterclasses.

 Qize Liu is the 2nd prize winner of the 2018 Colorado International Piano Festival Competition and the 1st prize winner of the 2016 University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Concerto Competition. Qize is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Piano Performance at Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University as a pupil of Alexander Shtarkman. Qize obtained his bachelor’s degree in Piano performance from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley under the guidance of Brendan Kinsella. Qize has performed in numerous venues in the United States and China, including a performance of the Mozart Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor with the UTRGV Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dr. Peter Dabrowski. 

The tribute will take place in the Cardenas Gallery at IMAS from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. with a brief intermission between the 20-minute sets. Attendees can further explore the museum on their visit and enjoy an array of exhibits including “The World of Frida”, “Stillness by Carlos Limas”, “Spectrum Dynamic”, and “Mexican & Latin American Folk Art”. Visitors can explore the McAllen Public Utility BioZone, “This is a STEMinist” digital exhibit, Science On a Sphere, or add on a visit to Seed to Table.  The performance is included with the price of admission. IMAS admission is $1 for visitors ages 4 and up. Active military and up to 5 family members may receive free admission through Blue Star Museum discount. Museums for All (WIC/EBT) family benefit is $1 for up to 4 people. Free for IMAS members. Learn more at https://theimasonline.org/
