Monday Smuggling Attempts Result in 71 Arrests

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents arrest 71 migrants attempting to avoid apprehension.

Yesterday afternoon, RGV agents working near El Rucio Road in Linn, Texas, attempted to stop a red Toyota Corolla being used for human smuggling. The driver failed to yield to law enforcement agents and continued southbound on Highway 281. After several miles, the vehicle came to a stop near FM 1017.  Several subjects exited the vehicle in an attempt to abscond into the dense brush. Agents quickly searched the surrounding area and discovered four noncitizens hiding in the brush however, the driver of the vehicle was not located.

Yesterday evening, RGV agents in coordination with Homeland Security Investigations agents approached a San Juan, Texas, residence suspected of harboring migrants. Agents encountered 45 migrants to include four unaccompanied migrant children within the home. The migrants are citizens of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. All subjects were taken into Border Patrol custody.

Additionally, twenty-two migrants were discovered in a Mission, Texas, residence.

Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
