McAllen ISD students earn 9 spots on All-Region Jazz Band

Nine McAllen ISD high school students have been selected for the All-Region Jazz Band following auditions held earlier this fall.

Students representing McAllen High, McAllen Memorial High, and James “Nikki” Rowe High earned spots on the Region 15 Texas Music Educators’ Association High School All-Region Jazz Band.

“These students and their music teachers worked very hard in preparation for this audition,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Jim Egger said. “Congratulations to these very talented and hard-working musicians.”

The students selected include Andrew Morales, Region Jazz Trumpet, McAllen High; Alex Martinez, Region Jazz Tenor Trombone, McAllen High; Jose Rodriguez, Region Jazz Bass Guitar, McAllen High; Oswaldo Soria-Cueto, 1st chair Tenor Saxophone and Area Jazz member, Memorial High; Michael Cisneros, Region Jazz Alto Saxophone, Memorial High;  Abraham Torres, Region Jazz Bass Trombone, Memorial High; Johnathan Garcia, Region Jazz Trumpet, Rowe High; Omar Salinas, Region Jazz Tenor Trombone, Rowe High; and Juan Delgado, Region Jazz Bass Trombone, Rowe High.

“We are very proud of Oswaldo Soria-Cueto from Memorial High who was chosen as the best Tenor Saxophone in our region,” Egger said. “He was also selected for the Area Jazz Band and is now one step away from being selected as a member of the TMEA All-State Jazz Band.”
