McAllen ISD High School Choir students continued their dominance with the most students selected for the TMEA Region High School Choir, following virtual auditions held recently.
McAllen ISD had 36 students selected for the Region 15 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) High School Choir Region and Pre-Area auditions. That is the most of any school district in the region.
“This was the second round of auditions and McAllen ISD High School Choir students continued their dominance in our region,” McAllen ISD Fine Arts Director Jim Egger said. “McAllen ISD had 47 percent of all chairs.”
McAllen ISD’s James “Nikki” Rowe High had 15 students selected, the most of any school.
McAllen ISD also had 19 students advance to January’s TMEA Area audition, placing them one step away from the TMEA All-State Choir. Again, Rowe High had the most students (10) of any school advance to the Area contest.
Four McAllen ISD students were selected as the top performer in their section, claiming half of the available spots. These first-chair students are:
Alto 2 – Evie Shirah, McAllen High
Tenor 1 – Dylan Moreno, Rowe High
Tenor 2 – Tyler Warwas, McAllen High
Baritone – James Richardson, Rowe High
