The Laredo College Homeland Security Studies Program (HSSP) will be having free information sessions for those who are interested in registering for the one-semester certification, two-semester certification or the Associate of Applied Science.

Prospective students that desire to gain new skills or professionals who wish to specialize in this field, may obtain the HSSP certifications or associate’s degree. Individuals interested in a career in Homeland Security both in the area of frontline law enforcement such as Customs and Border Protection, Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), or mission support roles will benefit greatly from the topics covered in this new program.

In order to qualify for the program, prospective students must attend an information session. Some of the topics that will be discussed during the sessions will be program admissions, requirements and further details about the program itself.

These sessions will be held at the Ft. McIntosh campus on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the De La Garza Building, room 101. All information sessions will adhere to all state, federal and local health and safety protocols. There are limited spaces available at each session.

The program is set to start in January 2021 and will be taught in a hybrid format, which consists of online and face-to-face instruction. All instruction will be held virtually, while labs will be held on campus while adhering to all state, federal and local health and safety protocols.

The college is pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

For more information about the Homeland Security Studies Program information session, prospective students may email michael.bailey@laredo.edu or heriberto.hernandez@laredo.edu or call (956) 721-5802.
