McAllen-  McAllen Public Library invites the entire community to participate in the Reading Without Walls Challenge. The challenge, started by National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Gene Luen Yang, celebrates reading and diversity and will run from April 15 to May 15, 2017.

The Reading Without Walls Challenge is simple! The community is challenged to read three books to spread appreciation and understanding of others. The challenges are:

1.    Read a book about a character who doesn’t look or live like you.

2.    Read a book about a topic you don’t know much about.

3.    Read a book in a format that you don’t normally read for fun.

“This challenge is important because through reading, we can gain a better understanding of people, places, and things that are different from us,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “I challenge the community to read without walls so that we all may gain a better understanding of the world around us.”

Online registration for the challenge begins on April 15 athttps://mcallen.readsquared.com and all ages are encouraged to register.  Participants who complete all three challenges will receive a special certificate of recognition. For more information, please contact the library at 956-681-3000.
