HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge intercepted 16,000 rounds of 7.62×39 rifle ammunition and .38 caliber pistol ammunition.

“Our CBP officers prevented this ammunition from landing in the streets of Mexico, helping to save countless lives all thanks to their diligent inspection work,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “The undeclared exportation of weapons and ammunition into Mexico is illegal.”

On May 3, 2022, CBP officers conducting outbound enforcement operations at the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Chevrolet pickup truck driving southbound to Mexico. A CBP officer referred the vehicle for further inspection, which included utilizing non-intrusive inspection equipment. After physically inspecting the vehicle, officers discovered 3,000 rounds of .38 caliber pistol ammunition and 13,000 7.62×39 rifle ammunition hidden within the vehicle.
