EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District announced Thursday that based on recommendations from Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) it will host outdoor in-person graduation ceremonies to honor the Class of 2020.
“Graduating from high school is a tremendous accomplishment,” said ECISD Interim Superintendent Gilbert Garza Jr. “I am excited to announce that the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees, administrators and principals are preparing graduation ceremonies to tentatively take place June 2 – June 5, 2020.”
According to TEA, an outdoor ceremony may take place in any Texas county on or after June 1. The graduation ceremonies for all four Edinburg CISD high schools will be held at the Richard R. Flores Stadium, 1800 S. Stadium Drive in Edinburg. The preliminary scheduled dates and times are as follows:
- June 2: Edinburg High School Graduation Ceremony at 8 p.m.
- June 3: Vela High School Graduation Ceremony at 8 p.m.
- June 4: Edinburg North High School Graduation Ceremony at 8 p.m.
- June 5: Economedes High School Graduation Ceremony at 8 p.m.
To comply with health safety standards, each senior will be awarded two tickets for guests to celebrate their academic achievements. In accordance with Abbott’s Executive Order, the District is adhering to recommended health protocols and social distancing guidelines for everyone’s safety.
“However, should COVID-19 cases increase in our area that require us to revert to more strict measures, we would have to reevaluate and possibly delay ceremonies,” Garza said.
The graduation ceremonies are also expected to be live-streamed via the District’s social media platforms and website at www.ecisd.us.
