EDINBURG, TX – Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector (RGV) agents assist local law enforcement with vehicle accidents and render first aid to distressed migrants.

Saturday evening, Weslaco Border Patrol Station agents encountered a traffic accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and FM Road 493. Agents immediately rendered aid to the occupants of both vehicles and secured the scene, until Donna Police Department (DPD) officers arrived. A short time later, DPD officers advised they were involved in a foot pursuit with driver of one of the involved vehicles. Agents in the immediate area assisted in the apprehension of the driver, who was taken into custody by DPD.

Sunday afternoon, McAllen Border Patrol Station agents working near Sullivan City, Texas, encountered an adult female who was suffering from possible heat exhaustion. A Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) arrived on scene and began providing medical treatment while simultaneously requesting an ambulance. The woman was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

Monday evening, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station agents working in La Grulla, Texas, encountered 12 migrants following a call from a woman in the group. The caller requested assistance for a 13-year-old migrant female who fainted. A Border Patrol EMT evaluated the child who did not require any further medical attention. The child along with her family were transported to a Border Patrol Station for processing.

Falfurrias Border Patrol Station agents received a call from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) regarding a major accident south of the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint near Encino, Texas. Arriving agents helped secure the scene and provided traffic control until DPS troopers deemed the road safe to reopen. 

In addition to assisting our local community, RGV agents rescued 17 migrants throughout the Rio Grande Valley this weekend. Agents have encountered many distressed migrants who were abandoned by smugglers during their smuggling attempt. Migrants are left behind in desolate areas when they are unable to keep up with the rest of the group. RGV Sector urges the public not to jeopardize their lives by illegally entering the United States.
