Bob Boggus and Jessica Delgado the New 2019 Man & Woman of the Year

The McAllen Chamber announced that this year Bob Boggus and Jessica Delgado have been selected as McAllen’s Man & Woman of the Year.  Since 1955, the Chamber has honored outstanding individuals for their contributions to the City of McAllen.  These men and women are successful in their careers, and also volunteer countless hours serving on committees and boards, supporting worthy causes and making a positive impact on our community.  

The City of McAllen is very fortunate to have such devoted people who care so much about their community that they volunteer their time and support to events, and go above and beyond what is required of them to help create the quality of life that makes McAllen a wonderful place to live.

Jessica Delgado
2019 Woman of the Year

McAllen’s Woman of the Year, Jessica Delgado is co-owner with her husband Chef Larry Delgado of the restaurants house.wine & bistro, SALT-New American Table, and Salome on Main. Jessica began her career in with Carrabba’s Italian Grill and by the time she was 26, she had become the company’s youngest female Managing Partner.  

In 2008, she and her husband moved to McAllen to open house. wine. & bistro., a boutique wine bar and New American bistro.  The Delgado’s unwavering attention to detail and genuine commitment to community has translated to 10 years of successfully propelling the culinary diversity of McAllen and the RGV.   

Following the success of house. wine. & bistro., the Delgado’s opened SALT-New American Table in December 2013, creating a platform where cultural cuisine meets regional sourcing.  

In March 2019, the Delgado’s opened their third restaurant, Salome on Main.  This Modern Interior Mexican concept features Pre-Hispanic & modern cooking methods, Mexican wine and wine made by Mexican American wine makers, and offers a huge selection of tequila, mezcal and sotol, agave-based spirits.

Between balancing three restaurants and a full household with twins Lia and Lucian, Jessica remains committed to her passion for the industry and for community. She currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Friends of the International Baccalaureate Program at McAllen ISD, sits on the board of the Boys & Girls Club and the RGV Restaurant Association, is a former state board member for the Texas Restaurant Association and is former Chairwoman of the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation.  

She and Larry have also received the Small Business Administration, “Small Business Person of the Year 2013,” McAllen Chamber of Commerce “Top 5 Small Business 2013” and “Volunteers of the Year 2013,” the Latino Leaders Entrepreneurial Excellence Award 2014, and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce Customer Service Award in 2015.

2019 Man of the Year

McAllen’s Man of the Year, Bob Boggus, was born in Amarillo, Texas in 1954.  He is the owner and President of Boggus Motors. Mr. Boggus graduated from Harlingen High School and the University of Texas at Austin.  He has served on the boards and is Past Chairman of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, McAllen Crime Stoppers, McAllen Performing Arts Center, Rio Grande Valley Partnership, the Salvation Army, the Texas Automobile Self Insurance Group, Texas State Bank, Valley Auto Dealers Association, and Valley Baptist Medical Center. 

Mr. Boggus has demonstrated throughout the years how he truly believes giving back to his community is extremely important.  In the early 90s he began the scholarship awards for MISD students at the McAllen Chamber, which he is still a part of today. He and his team at Boggus Ford Lincoln are involved with the Chamber’s Santa Fe Steakhouse Wine Classic and the Presidents’ Cup Golf Tournament – both events raise funds for the McAllen Chamber Education Initiatives.  Although he is humble of his commitment to his community, many know of his kindness and generosity to see others succeed.  He presently serves on the board of the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Auto Dealers Association.  Mr. Boggus is active in the Gideon-McAllen Chapter, and is a Rotarian in the McAllen Rotary South. In 1978, he married his wife Karen Anne Beverly with whom he has three children Ashley, Austin and Katie and six grandchildren.

The Man & Woman of the Year will be honored at the McAllen Chamber 65thAnnual Banquet on Thursday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in McAllen.  This year, the theme is “Let the Safari Adventure Begin” and will feature, live music, dinner, dancing, open bar and silent & live auctions.   Tickets are $100 per person.
