UTRGV Women’s Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Honors

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Monday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s tennis team is an ITA All-Academic Team and that four of its student-athletes are ITA Scholar-Athletes.

UTRGV earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by maintaining a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.2. UTRGV currently sports a 3.69 cumulative GPA.

Alicia Thal, Valeria Montero, Sandra Putz and Ana Platisa all earned ITA Scholar Athlete honors by record GPA’s of at least 3.5 during the 2019-20 academic year.

UTRGV is one of four teams in the UT System, 13 in Texas and four in the WAC to earn the honor. 

Nationally, 1,430 Division I women’s tennis student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and 244 women’s tennis programs were awarded with All-Academic Team distinction.
