WASHINGTON— Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) voted in favor of H.R. 271, Condemning the Trump Administration’s Legal Campaign to Take Away Americans’ Health Care. This resolution calls on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reverse its position in the Texas lawsuit, which argued that the requirement of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to maintain minimum essential coverage is unconstitutional and, as a result, the entire law should be invalidated. It passed the U.S. House of Representatives today and moves to the Senate for a vote. The Congressman released the following statement:

“The Administration has continuously taken measures that would put millions of Americans at risk by taking away critical health care protections. We have a top priority in Congress to ensure that we do not abandon people across this country with pre-existing conditions.

“The 28th District of Texas, and other areas across the country face unique health care challenges on a daily basis. A large number of residents who live in medically underserved minority and rural communities benefit and depend on affordable healthcare coverage for their well-being. We cannot allow the health and the security of our citizens, especially those with pre-existing conditions, to slip through the cracks.”
