PHARR – PSJA Early College High School Sophomore Angelina Mata placed 4th in the 2nd Annual Rio Grande Valley Visual Art Contest, which took place on, Jan. 23, 2021.
Middle and high school students from 10 school districts spanning from throughout the Valley participated in the event, which was held virtually this year. The contest is sponsored by the Rio Grande Valley Fine Arts Administrators Association.
“We as a district would like to congratulate Angelina on her amazing accomplishment in this regional art contest,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “To compete against dozens of students from across the Valley and come out among the top five is another example of how talented our fine arts students are here at PSJA ISD.”
During the contest, students were presented with a still life and a prompt and were then given three hours to produce a work of art. The top six high school students and the top six middle school students were awarded medals for their work.
“Congratulations Angela for earning this distinction! You are a wonderful example of what PSJA students can achieve despite the challenges of the pandemic,” said PSJA Fine Arts Director Jon Taylor. “We know you will continue to do incredible things. Wear your medal with pride!”
