PHARR, Texas — Mrs Baird’s Bread® is continuing a tradition of giving back that began more than a century ago when founder Ninnie Baird baked bread for her neighbors in Fort Worth. Inspired by her commitment to helping those facing hardship, Mrs Baird’s is proud to launch the fifth annual Fighting Texas Hunger campaign, partnering with food banks across Texas to help families experiencing food insecurity.

“We are honored to continue the legacy Ninnie Baird started more than 118 years ago of serving our neighbors in need,” said Tim Geiger, Vice President of Mrs Baird’s. “Food insecurity remains a significant challenge for many Texas families. Through Fighting Texas Hunger, we hope to provide fresh bread to local food banks while also raising awareness and encouraging community support.”

This year, the Fighting Texas Hunger program encompasses 25 million Texans and support food banks that provide assistance to more than 5 million of our neighbors.

Easy Ways for Rio Grande Valley Residents to Help

The Fighting Texas Hunger campaign makes it easy for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to get involved. Shoppers can look for Fighting Texas Hunger displays at participating grocery stores and scan the QR code to make a direct donation to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.

Donations can also be made online by selecting the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley from the list of participating food banks. According to Feeding America, every $1 donated can help provide up to seven meals for children and families facing hunger during the summer months.

Supporting Texas Food Banks Throughout June

Throughout June, Mrs Baird’s will donate more than 182,000 loaves of freshly baked bread to food banks serving communities in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, Tyler, Waco and the Rio Grande Valley.

As part of this commitment, Mrs Baird’s will donate 11,000 loaves of fresh bread to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to help support local families in need.

Why Summer Support Matters

Summer is one of the most challenging times of the year for food banks. When schools close for summer break, many children lose access to school meal programs, increasing the demand for food assistance.

The Fighting Texas Hunger campaign helps raise awareness of these seasonal challenges while providing meaningful support to local food banks. By donating fresh bread—not just surplus or day-old products—Mrs Baird’s helps food banks expand their reach and serve more families across Texas.

Join the Fight Against Hunger

Mrs Baird’s invites the community to join the effort throughout June and help make a difference for families in the Rio Grande Valley.

There are three ways to get involved:

1. Donate Food
Drop off nonperishable food donations at the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.

2. Make a Financial Contribution
Scan the Fighting Texas Hunger QR code at participating grocery stores or visit mrsbairds.com/fightingtexashunger. One hundred percent of donations designated for the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley go directly to supporting its mission.

3. Volunteer Your Time
Sign up to volunteer with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and help serve families in the community.

Every donation, volunteer hour and act of support helps strengthen communities across Texas. Together, we can honor the Mrs Baird’s tradition of caring for our neighbors while helping ensure families have access to the food they need.

About Fighting Texas Hunger

Mrs Baird’s launched Fighting Texas Hunger in 2021 to support local food banks and raise awareness about food insecurity across Texas. What began as a partnership with food banks in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio has expanded to include Austin, Corpus Christi, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, Tyler, Waco and the Rio Grande Valley.

Food insecurity remains one of the most pressing challenges facing Texas families, particularly children. Rising costs, ongoing economic pressures and increased demand for assistance have made it more difficult for many households to put food on the table.

By partnering with local food banks and encouraging community involvement, Fighting Texas Hunger helps provide critical resources to families throughout the state. Donations made through the campaign directly support the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and help provide meals for local families.

Mrs Baird’s is proud to be part of the solution and encourages all Texans to join the fight against hunger.
