MCALLEN, Texas – For 106 McAllen athletes, the 2026 Games of Texas was a chance to put their skills to the test, rise to the challenge and experience the excitement of competing at the state level.
Held July 30 through Aug. 2 in Bryan and College Station, the annual event, hosted by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF), brought together more than 7,500 athletes from communities throughout Texas to compete across 10 sports.
McAllen athletes brought home 18 medals, including six gold, eight silver and four bronze. Fourteen also finished among the top eight in their respective events, demonstrating the skill and preparation they brought to the competition.
The Games of Texas give young people the opportunity to gain valuable experience while developing confidence and a commitment to healthy, active lifestyles. Through its athletic programs, the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) helps create pathways for local youthto pursue their goals and discover what they can accomplish.

Tawil. “Their accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work, dedication and perseverance they showed throughout the season. We congratulate all our youthon a successful summer and thank them for representing our city with pride.”

We work every day to give them the support, opportunities and resources they need to succeed, and we are incredibly proud of the lasting impact our programs have on their lives,” said PARD Director Denny Meline.
