NEW YORK — Maria Bartiromo, one of the most recognizable figures in American financial and political television, has left FOX News Media after more than 12 years with the company, ending a tenure that included prominent programs on both FOX Business Network and FOX News Channel.
FOX News Media announced the departure Thursday, Sept. 3, saying it was effective immediately. The company did not say why Bartiromo left.
“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” FOX News Media said in its official announcement.
The final episode of “Mornings with Maria” aired Thursday morning. Beginning Friday, the FOX Business program will be renamed “Mornings with FOX Business” and will feature rotating anchors.
Her weekly FOX Business program, “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street,” will also undergo a change. The program will become “FBN’s Wall Street,” with Cheryl Casone hosting initially, followed by rotating anchors. AP News
Bartiromo’s departure also leaves an opening at FOX News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” where she interviewed political leaders, policymakers, and business executives. Former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz will host the program this Sunday while the network searches for a permanent host.
FOX’s announcement offered no explanation for the separation and did not characterize Bartiromo’s departure as either a resignation or termination. The Associated Press reported Thursday that Bartiromo had not publicly commented on her departure.
Bartiromo joined FOX Business in 2014 after a long career at CNBC and became an important presence in the network’s coverage of financial markets, business, economic policy and national politics. Before joining FOX, she established herself as a prominent financial journalist and became known for reporting from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
As recently as this summer, FOX News Media continued to feature Bartiromo prominently in its programming. In a June announcement detailing coverage of America’s 250th anniversary, the network said Bartiromo would anchor “Mornings with Maria” live from the New York Stock Exchange on July 1 and referenced “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” as part of its programming.
