EDINBURG, Texas — Faith leaders, families and community members will gather Saturday, Aug. 29, in Edinburg for a peaceful march supporting families affected by the deportation of a loved one.
The event, “Marcha Pacífica: Una Voz de Esperanza Para las Familias,” is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the Edinburg City Hall parking lot, 415 W. University Drive.
Grace Church and Templo Familiar Emanuel are organizing the gathering under the message “For the Law, Against Injustices.”
According to organizers, the march is intended to call attention to the experiences of families and children facing separation and uncertainty following the deportation of relatives. The program will emphasize dignity, compassion and support for affected families.
The gathering will include prayer, music, personal testimony and a peaceful walk. Participants are expected to offer prayers for families, children, government officials, law enforcement personnel, churches, schools and the broader community.
Pastor Eddie de La Rosa, superintendent of the Assemblies of God Texas Gulf Hispanic District, is scheduled to participate and lead a prayer for government officials and law enforcement.
Other participating religious leaders announced by organizers include Rev. Zilpa Gutierrez of Templo Familiar Emanuel; Rev. Merelda Gonzalez of Grace Church; Rev. Pat Seitz of Saint Theresa of the Infant Jesus and Our Lady of Guadalupe; Rev. Anthony Madrigal of Restoration Church; Pastor Daniel González of New Life Community Church; and Pastor Margarita Martinez of Alamo Community Church.
The event comes as immigration arrests and deportations have increased nationally, with Texas among the states experiencing significant federal immigration enforcement activity.
Organizers are describing Marcha Pacífica as a faith-centered response focused on families rather than opposition to immigration law itself. The theme, “For the Law, Against Injustices,” reflects their stated position that laws should be respected while families affected by enforcement actions should be treated with dignity and compassion.
The march is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Edinburg City Hall parking lot, 415 W. University Drive in Edinburg.
