Statement by Dr. Rashid
In today’s political environment, it is sometimes easy to forget that rivals are not enemies and that what unites us is greater than what divides us.
In my campaign for Mayor, I ran on a platform that focused on job creation, improvement to our healthcare and education systems, the empowerment of women, and the creation of a skilled workforce through a program of internships and financial assistance. As I said in my concession speech, I am proud of the impact we had on the election, especially as regards expanding the conversation to include our issues and new voter turnout.
The fact that no candidate was able to secure 50% of the vote, clearly indicates that the citizens of McAllen desire change. I am delighted to unequivocally support Commissioner Villalobos for Mayor, a man who I believe will bring about the changes we so desperately need.
Commissioner Villalobos has exhibited a willingness to incorporate into his platform the important issues one which we ran our campaign. These are vital for improving the quality of life and living conditions of our citizens. He agrees that, together, we will do everything possible to reduce unemployment, create new jobs, and improve health care and the education available to our citizens. I will do everything in my power to support Commissioner Villalobos in our common goal of achieving these vital objectives.
I wish him good luck and ask my supporters to support him in his endeavors to serve as the Mayor of this great city of McAllen.
