Dr. Marisela Rodriguez Tijerina named interim president of Laredo College

An innovative, visionary and mission-driven leader in education Dr. Marisela Rodriguez Tijerina, current Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, will hold sole responsibility and authority as interim president of Laredo College beginning July 9, 2021. LC Board of Trustees unanimously voted in the special called meeting to appoint Dr. Rodriguez Tijerina to lead the college until a qualified candidate for the presidency is selected and fills the position.

“It is imperative that our college continues to sustain the efficiency and innovation that has always characterized this organization. Dr. Rodriguez Tijerina recognizes that LC is a world-class institution with a rich tradition of excellence and innovation,” LC Board President Lupita Zepeda said. “The board is confident in her ability to lead the college, and we have entrusted her with this important task because of the vast knowledge and experience she possesses.”

Rodriguez Tijerina will execute the college’s mission to continue developing programs offered in state-of-the-art facilities with the most updated technology as LC strives for continued excellence. During her tenure at this institution, she has demonstrated leadership in support of the continued development of the college’s vision. her career expands beyond academics, students’ services and administrative services in higher education, and she has been truly instrumental in delivering a quality education to the students of Laredo College.

“It is an honor, and I am humbled to have been selected as acting interim president while the search for the next college president continues. I am fully committed to our college and looking forward to working with all departments to achieve a collective vision for this institution,” Dr. Marisela Rodriguez Tijerina stated. “I can ensure that while I am acting interim president, I will continue to focus on our institutional core values to achieve educational growth and continue transforming many students’ lives.”

Laredo College has already formed an Ad Hoc Executive Search Committee that will begin the search for a new president. The search committee is comprised of the institution’s executives, faculty, staff and students that will evaluate and conduct a thorough national search to find the 8th Laredo College president.  They will adhere to prudent personnel management in the recruiting, interviewing, screening and employment of the college’s future leader.

Our institution will continue to sustain its legacy and commitment to academic excellence and civic engagement. As the transition process continues, both campuses will continue their operations to offer quality education to the south Texas region.
