EDINBURG, Texas — The Board of Trustees of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District voted at its School Board meeting on August 25, 2026, to approve an employment contract with Dr. Angela Dominguez as Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Dominguez begins her service with the District on September 1, 2026. The Board named Dr. Dominguez the lone finalist for the position on August 3, 2026, following a comprehensive search, and took final action after the twenty-one day public notice period required by Texas law.
Dr. Dominguez comes to Edinburg from Donna ISD, a Hidalgo County district of approximately 13,000 students, where she has served as Superintendent since October 2021 and is the first woman to hold that position in the district’s history. During her tenure, Donna ISD rose from the 19th to the 77th percentile statewide in STAAR student achievement, eliminated every F-rated campus in the district, and raised its College, Career, and Military Readiness rate from 61 percent to 86 percent. She was named the 2024-2025 Region One Superintendent of the Year and was recognized nationally as a Superintendent to Watch by the National School Public Relations Association.
Dr. Dominguez brings more than thirty years of experience in public education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, deputy superintendent, and superintendent. She was the founding principal of the Young Women’s Leadership Academy in San Antonio ISD, served as Chief of Secondary Schools and Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services in Edgewood ISD, and served as Deputy Superintendent of Colorado Springs School District 11, a district of approximately 22,000 students across 57 campuses. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and a doctorate from The University of Texas at Austin through its Cooperative Superintendency Program.
“Dr. Dominguez has a proven record of raising student achievement and managing public dollars with discipline,” said Board President Xavier Salinas. “The Board is confident she is the right leader for Edinburg CISD, and we are proud to welcome her to our community.”

The Board also expressed its appreciation to Adel Felix for serving as Acting Superintendent and for providing steady leadership to the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District during the transition.
