McALLEN, Texas – The City of McAllen advises motorists and residents that N. 2nd Street will be fully closed between Wisconsin Avenue and Frontera Road beginning September 8, 2026. The closure is expected to last approximately seven months while crews replace the bridge and complete drainage, roadway, and pedestrian improvements for the McAllen Lateral Drainage Improvements Project.

Message boards will provide advance notice. Northbound traffic will be detoured at Wisconsin Avenue and southbound traffic at Northgate Lane. Motorists should follow posted signs and allow additional travel time.

Project Overview
The McAllen Lateral Channel is a major stormwater outlet serving approximately 13 square miles of McAllen. It runs from the Morris Regional Stormwater Detention Facility near Auburn Avenue and N. Main Street to the Northeast Regional Stormwater Detention Facility, where it joins the Northeast Blueline Drain Ditch.

The project integrates drainage, transportation, and pedestrian improvements to strengthen infrastructure and create a new connection for walking and bicycling.
