WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) today commended the Senate’s confirmation of Ada Brown to fill a judicial vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas.  There are now two remaining federal vacancies in Texas, only one of which does not yet have a nominee.

“Ada’s experience serving Texans on the state’s Fifth Court of Appeals has prepared her well for the federal bench,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I thank my colleagues in the Senate for supporting her confirmation, and I commend Ada Brown on this momentous achievement.”

“I am grateful my colleagues have confirmed Justice Brown to the Northern District of Texas,” Sen. Cruz said. “Texans will be well served by Brown’s professionalism, experience, and commitment to the rule of law.”

Senators Cornyn and Cruz recommended this nominee to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC).  Sen. Cornyn and Sen. Cruz established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the Senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.

Ada E. Brown of Texas is a Justice on Texas’ Fifth Court of Appeals.  Before joining the appellate court in 2013, Justice Brown practiced at McKool Smith in Dallas, Texas, where her practice focused on commercial litigation and patent infringement matters.  She also served as a judge on the Dallas County Criminal Court and as a prosecutor in the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office.  Justice Brown has served as Commissioner for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and as Commissioner for the Texas Department of Public Safety.  Justice Brown received her J.D. from Emory University School of Law and her B.A., manga cum laude, from Spelman College.
