ALAMO, Texas — Alamo has earned national recognition for its government communications, capturing first place for Best Overall Government Programming and receiving eight additional honors at the 46th Annual National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors Government Programming Awards.
The Award of Excellence in Government Programming is the highest recognition Alamo has received. The national honor recognizes overall audiovisual programming based on production quality, creativity, consistency, and storytelling.
The recognition places Alamo’s communications work alongside government programming produced by communities and agencies nationwide.
“This award reflects our commitment to not only inform our residents, but to connect with them through meaningful, high-quality content,” Communications Director Nina Chavez Gongora said. “We believe that how we tell our story matters, and we are proud to represent Alamo on a national stage.”
Beyond the first-place Best Overall honor, Alamo received Awards of Excellence for its “Your First Day in Alamo” instructional and training program and its Alamo Alerts public education initiative.
Alamo also earned Awards of Distinction for Parks and Recreation programming and Emergency Management/Emergency Operations Center communications.
Three Awards of Honor recognized programming for children and young adults, diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, and water-related communications. The “Mayor on Location” social media campaign also received an Award of Honor.
NATOA’s Government Programming Awards recognize excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies nationwide.
The awards reflect Alamo’s effort to expand how residents receive information through digital platforms, public education initiatives and community-focused programming.
Alamo Alerts and Mayor on Location are among the communications initiatives designed to provide residents with information while creating greater engagement between municipal government and the community.
The national recognition also included Alamo’s work to expand broadband access and digital equity. Those efforts are intended to reduce barriers to internet access and provide residents with additional opportunities to obtain information and participate online.
The communications awards come as Alamo continues to grow and seeks new ways to reach residents through traditional and digital platforms.
For the Communications Department, the national honors represent recognition not simply for individual productions but for the broader strategy used to communicate with residents.
The nine awards span emergency management, recreation, public education, water, social media and accessibility, demonstrating the range of information produced for the community.
With the Best Overall Government Programming award, Alamo secured the top national honor among its recognitions, putting a South Texas community on the national stage for government communications and audiovisual storytelling.
