The City of McAllen is urging residents to take extra precautions today as a Heat Advisory will be in effect for the Rio Grande Valley from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday. According to the National Weather Service, dangerously high temperatures combined with elevated humidity levels may produce heat index values of up to 115 degrees.

City officials encourage all residents to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and monitor family members, friends, and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.
Particular attention should be given to older adults, infants and young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, outdoor workers, and those without reliable access to air conditioning. Residents are encouraged to make a phone call, send a text message, or visit vulnerable neighbors and loved ones to ensure they are safe and coping with the extreme temperatures.
