MISSION, TEXAS — Local attorney Ricardo “Rick” Salinas will officially file his paperwork to run for Mayor of Mission on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Mission City Hall. Salinas launches his platform centered on fiscal responsibility, affordability, and total transparency.
The announcement follows breaking news from the Progress Times on July 11, which revealed that an independent financial audit led to an immediate downgrade of Mission’s official Wall Street credit rating—directly contradicting the incumbent administration’s claims of economic stability.
Salinas, a trial attorney with over 30 years of legal experience, stated his campaign will focus on dismantling institutional mismanagement, protecting family budgets, and fixing basic neighborhood infrastructure.
“The independent data proves the institutional leadership does not know how to manage Mission’s growth,” said Salinas. “Our families and local business owners are working hard and doing everything
right, but the management at City Hall is dragging us down. Protecting true affordability for our residents starts with fiscal responsibility—not making bad investment decisions that force taxpayers to spend their hard-earned money propping up political pet projects while our streets and drainage get ignored.”
Salinas warned that a credit downgrade acts like a damaged credit score, raising interest rates and making future public projects far more expensive for taxpayers.
“Less than a few weeks ago, the mayor threw a celebratory luncheon for the political elite, but a few days later, Wall Street handed the City of Mission a credit downgrade,” Salinas added. “They didn’t downgrade the hardworking people of Mission—they downgraded bad business decisions and poor bookkeeping. It is time to bring complete transparency to City Hall and restore trust in our government.”
