Educators can sign up for TECHnovate before August 3
The fourth annual TECHnovate South Texas (formerly iPadPaloozaSTX) will be 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, August 3, at McAllen High School (2021 La Vista Ave.). This learning festival is a celebration of the cultural shift that iPads, Chromebooks, and other technology have brought about in education and the world. This event will focus on creativity, social collaboration, engagement and the compelling ways schools have integrated technology into their classrooms.
McAllen ISD teachers can register in the Region One PDS (Professional Development System). Guests from outside the district can register online at eventbrite.com/e/technovate-tickets-42869674350.

McAllen ISD Back to School Fair
The annual McAllen ISD Back to School Fair will be from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, at De Leon Middle School (4201 N. 29th St.). There will be physical exams for sports, health screenings (asthma, diabetes, blood pressure) and immunizations (immunization card required). The cost for vaccines is $5 for children up to 18 years old (if uninsured) and $10 per vaccine for adults 19 years and older if uninsured. Students must be registered at a McAllen ISD school to attend. For more information, contact McAllen ISD State and Federal Programs at 956-971-1113.

McAllen ISD Superintendent’s Golf Tournament
The second annual McAllen ISD Superintendent’s Golf Tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, at McAllen’s Palm View Golf Course (2701 S. Ware Rd.). The event is held in conjunction with the McAllen Education Foundation. To register a team or to sign up as a sponsor, call Celso Gonzales at 956-457-4336 or email celso.gonzales@mcallenisd.net. The sign-up deadline is Friday, August 10.

McAllen ISD Back to School Immunization Clinics
The McAllen ISD Back to School Immunization Clinics will be August 6-10 and Monday, August 27, at the McAllen ISD Crockett Administrative Annex on 2112 N. Main St. Each clinic will be from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The clinics are sponsored by Hidalgo County Health Dept. The cost is $5 per vaccine for uninsured children under age 18 and $10 for adults. Medicaid, CHIP and private insurance are accepted (Blue Cross, Aetna and United only). A parent or guardian must accompany the student and bring the child’s immunization record. McAllen ISD School Board meeting
The next regular McAllen School Board meeting will be on Monday, August 13, at the McAllen ISD Administration Bldg. (2000 N. 23rd St.). The public portion of the meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Board Room. For more information, call 618-6094, or visit mcallenisd.org and select “About Us” followed by “School Board.”

McAllen ISD General Assembly
McAllen ISD will welcome back teachers to kick off the new school year at its annual General Assembly on Tuesday, August 14, at McAllen Convention Center. More than 3,400 teachers and staff will be present. It is a day of celebration and training. The event will be from 1-3 p.m.

McAllen ISD first day of classes
The first day of classes for McAllen ISD will be Monday, August 27. Instruction at elementary schools will begin at 7:50 a.m. while middle schools begin at 8 a.m. High school instruction will start at 8:15 a.m. Buses will be making their runs. Call your child’s school for more information.

Enrollment in McAllen ISD
Families wishing to enroll their children in McAllen ISD can go through the application process and contact the Student Support Services Department at 618-6031. The district has waived tuition for students who live outside the district boundaries and still wish to attend McAllen ISD schools.

McAllen ISD Child Find
The McAllen Independent School District offers a free appropriate public education to all individuals with disabilities, ages 3-21, who qualify for special education. Private school children, religious school children and home-schooled children with disabilities that reside within the district’s jurisdiction will have the opportunity to access special education services. For Child Find information or to make a referral, contact Josie Reyes or Lisa Requenez at 1619 Galveston Ave. in McAllen or call 632-3285.
