PHARR, Texas – Families in South Pharr now have a new opportunity to enroll their 3- and 4-year-olds in high-quality early childhood education as enrollment is now open for the new Cesar Chavez Head Start campus for the 2026-2027 school year.
Through a partnership between PSJA ISD and Hidalgo County Head Start, eligible families can access free early childhood education along with comprehensive health, nutrition, developmental, and family support services, all in one location.
The new Cesar Chavez Head Start campus combines PSJA ISD’s strong academic foundation with the federally funded Head Start program, giving children access to high-quality instruction while connecting families to valuable resources that support their child’s overall development.
Eligible children ages 3 and 4 receive early learning in a structured educational setting while families benefit from services including health, dental, nutrition, developmental, and mental health screenings, as well as parent engagement opportunities and family support resources.
“Every child deserves a strong start, and through this partnership we’re making it easier for more families in South Pharr to access high-quality early childhood education and the support services that help children thrive,” said Chavez Elementary Principal Erika Garcia-Reyes. “We encourage families with eligible 3- and 4-year-olds to enroll now so their children can begin building the academic and social skills that will prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.”
Students at the partnership program are taught by state-certified PSJA ISD teachers using curriculum aligned with Texas standards and participate in engaging learning experiences designed to build kindergarten readiness and long-term academic success.
Families who do not qualify for Head Start still have access to tuition-free PSJA ISD Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 programs through the district’s open enrollment initiative, ensuring every age-eligible child has access to a high-quality early learning experience.
Enrollment is now open for the 2026-2027 school year. Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Parents interested in learning more about Head Start eligibility or enrolling their child may contact the Cesar Chavez Head Start Center at (956) 354-2112.
