The Silver Ribbon Community Partners and the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce have joined forces again this year to assist the elderly and persons with disabilities in our community “Beat the Heat” this summer.  The fans collected will be distributed to the elderly and persons with disabilities who meet the low income guidelines.

Silver Ribbon provides financial assistance to the elderly (65+) or persons with disabilities (18+) who live in Hidalgo and Starr Counties who have been referred by Adult Protective Services due to physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, neglect, self-neglect or financial exploitation.

“Due to advance age, multiple health issues, and the inability to afford the cost of a window air conditioner or fan many of our elderly in the community are at risk due to the extreme heat during our hot summer months. In some cases it could be fatal,” reports Rose Ramirez, Program Director for Silver Ribbon.

“The RGVHCC is excited to be part of this fan drive” said Cynthia M. Sakulenzki, President/CEO of the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  “At the Chamber we believe it is important to lend a hand whenever we can and to remind the community of those vulnerable elders and let them know they are not forgotten.”

The fans can be dropped off with Silver Ribbon at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services office located at 1919 Austin Ave., McAllen, TX between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm or at the RGVHCC office located at 3313 N. McColl Rd. McAllen, TX.  Monetary donations are also being accepted to assist with the purchase of small room air conditioners. Donations will be accepted through August 14, 2014. Your gift is tax deductible.
