EDINBURG, Texas – On the evening of May 2, 2026, a serious crash involving an alleged intoxicated driver resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries at the intersection of Salinas Street and West Monte Cristo Road.
According to investigators, a truck driven by Miguel Angel Suarez, 31, traveling westbound, allegedly ran a red light and collided with another vehicle entering the intersection.
The driver of the impacted vehicle, Martha Luna Miranda, 39, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her husband, who was seated in the front passenger seat, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.
Three children, two boys ages 9 and 5 and one girl age 4, were also in the vehicle and sustained injuries. Both boys were transported to San Antonio for further treatment.
The 4-year-old girl was treated and released.
Charges against the suspect are pending, including Intoxication Manslaughter and four counts of Intoxication Assault.
Officials emphasized that the City of Edinburg is a no-refusal city.
Chief Jaime Ayala reminded the public to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, especially because it involves children,” Ayala said. “We urge everyone to make responsible choices—plan ahead, designate a driver, and never get behind the wheel while impaired.”
The investigation into the collision is continuing.

The suspect is tentatively scheduled for arraignment Monday, May 4th at 3 p.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Court.
