EDINBURG, Texas – Big improvements are coming to Edinburg! At their recent meeting, the Edinburg City Council unanimously approved the selected recipients of the Facade and Lot Improvement Program (FLIP). The approval paves the way for 40 local businesses to embark on transformative improvements to their properties, enhancing the city’s aesthetic appeal and economic vitality. The total cost of improvements for all 40 projects is $629,100, representing a significant investment in the growth and revitalization of Edinburg.

The FLIP, administered by the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC), provides financial support to local businesses and property owners for facade and lot improvements. Each of the awarded companies will receive up to $10,000 to invest in their properties. Although most improvement projects will exceed this amount, the businesses are committed to investing the difference.

“We are thrilled to announce the approval of the FLIP program recipients. The Edinburg EDC is committed to fostering economic growth and prosperity in our community and is excited to support these 40 small businesses as they move forward with their projects,” Veronica Gonzales, Edinburg EDC Board President, said. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact that the EDC’s investment will have on the businesses participating in FLIP and on the local economy.”

The selected businesses were notified through an approval letter, and improvements can begin as soon as they receive the necessary permits from the City of Edinburg’s Development Services departments. Projects must be completed by September 30, 2024. The FLIP program operates under a reimbursement model, with funds dispersed upon project completion.

“I am incredibly excited that these small businesses are getting the help they need and deserve. The improvements they will make through the FLIP program will not only benefit their establishments but will also be a significant boost to our city,” Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr. said. “This investment in our local businesses will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing growth and development of Edinburg.”

The FLIP program is crucial in revitalizing properties, attracting customers, tenants, and investors, and ultimately creating a more vibrant and prosperous community. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, fosters community pride, and stimulates economic growth by creating a visually appealing environment that attracts visitors and promotes local commerce in Edinburg.
