DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector arrested a Mexican man previously convicted of intentional injury to a child.
On Aug. 10, agents assigned to the Del Rio Station were patrolling west of Del Rio, near the Rio Grande, when they encountered Francisco Gallegos-Garza, 59, a Mexican national in the United States illegally. Record checks revealed Gallegos-Garza has an extensive criminal history including felony convictions for injury to a child with intentional bodily injury and assault.
In 2011 Gallegos-Garza was convicted of felony re-entry after deportation and sentenced to 46 months in prison. He was deported after completion of his sentence.
Gallegos-Garza now faces another charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
“Keeping repeat offenders from entering our borders is key to safeguarding our communities,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony “Scott” Good. “Criminal illegal aliens who repeatedly attempt to enter our country pose a serious risk and our agents stand ready to meet the challenge.”
