AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott announced $8,367,000 in Funds for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 35 organizations in the Central Texas region as part of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour. Administered by TVC, the funding will provide services to an estimated more than 4,790 local veterans.
“Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great land, and every veteran deserves the opportunity to build a fulfilling life after service,” said Governor Abbott. “Texas will always support the brave men and women who answered the call to serve our state and nation.”
“We’re incredibly thankful for the organizations across Central Texas that show up every day to support Texas veterans and their families,” said TVC Deputy Executive Director and Army veteran Shawn Deabay. “These grants help strengthen that work. It’s great seeing the community give back to those who served.”
The FVA grant recipients and their services include:
- A Sanctuary for Military Families: $211,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health
- Austin Dog Alliance: $350,000 for Service Dog Program
- Austin Habitat for Humanity: $100,000 Housing for Texas Heroes
- Baylor Research Institute:
- $400,000 for Clinical Counseling
- $200,000 for Family & Child Support Services
- Bell County:
- $400,000 for Financial Assistance
- $140,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
- Blanco River Regional Recovery Team: $198,000 for Financial Assistance
- Bluebonnet Trails Community MHMR Center:
- $45,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health
- $150,000 for Financial Assistance
- Brazos Valley Community Action Programs: $56,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes
- Bring Everyone in the Zone: $100,000 for Financial Assistance
- Burnet County: $105,000 for Transportation Services
- Caldwell County: $100,000 for Financial Assistance

- National Guard Association of Texas: $250,000 for Financial Assistance
- ROCK, Ride on Center for Kids: $183,000 for Clinical Counseling
- Samaritan Center for Counseling and Pastoral Care: $400,000 for Clinical Counseling
- Semper Fi & America’s Fund: $300,000 for Financial Assistance
- Texas National Guard Family Support Foundation: $300,000 for Financial Assistance
- The Salvation Army – Waco: $250,000 for Financial Assistance
- Travis County: $50,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
- USA Cares: $250,000 for Financial Assistance
- Waco Habitat for Humanity: $200,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes
- Williamson County:
- $300,000 for Financial Assistance
- $360,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
- YMCA of Central Texas: $45,000 for Family & Child Support Services
In May, TVC Commissioners approved 190 grants totaling more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are anticipated to provide direct services to more than 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses across Texas.
Since 2009 through the current 2026-2027 grant cycle, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants.
The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services, and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance.
