BROWNSVILLE, Texas – On Tuesday, August 4th, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors held a special meeting to approve the updated slate of the Board of Directors nominees for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. The nominating committee is responsible for filling the following vacancies:
(3) Three-year term Board of Director position, serving from October 2026 to September 2029.
(1) One-year term Board of Director position, serving from October 2026 to September 2027.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
In accordance with the Brownsville Chamber bylaws, additional candidates for director positions can be nominated by a petition bearing the genuine signatures of at least 5% (23 members) of the regular membership (469 members) of the Chamber. Such petition shall be filed with the nominating committee by emailing esmy@brownsvillechamber.com within 15 calendar days after notice has been given of the names of those nominated. The designated petition period will commence on Thursday, August 6th, and end on Thursday, August 20th, 2026. The determination of the Nominating Committee as to the legality of the petitions shall be final.
This shall serve as notice to the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce membership. If no petition is filed within the designated period of Thursday, August 6th – Thursday, August 20th, 2026, the nominations shall be closed and the nominated slate of candidates shall be declared elected by the Board of Directors at the next regular board meeting scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026.
If a valid petition is presented and determined valid by the nominating committee, an election committee will be appointed by the Board Chair to prepare the ballot containing the nominees and petitioners as adopted by the Board of Directors. A ballot shall then be emailed to each eligible elector in the Chamber membership.
