The Weslaco Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce and welcome three new members for the 2018-2019 fiscal year: Priscilla Canales, Ph.D., Travis McDaniel, and Daniel Montez.

The Weslaco Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce and welcome three new members for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.

Priscilla Canales, Ph.D., Superintendent of Weslaco ISD, has served the interest of public schools in both large and mid-size school systems since 1991. Through the years, she assumed various positions in education. She has been a teacher, mentor, educational specialist, assistant principal, principal, executive director, and assistant superintendent. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree from Texas A&M University in College Station.  Priscilla currently serves as the Vice President-Elect for the Texas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, on the UIL Region 28 Executive Committee, and on the UTRGV Leadership Advisory Committee. She is also actively involved in Rotary and Weslaco ISD’s mentoring program.

Travis McDaniel, owner of Valley Trophies, purchased and took over the company in 2014. He is a graduate of Leadership Mid Valley Class XI, and is a Red Coat Ambassador for the Weslaco Chamber. Travis also serves as treasurer on Frontera Audubon’s board of directors. This will be the first full term for Travis, as he filled a slot that became vacant halfway through the last fiscal year.

Daniel Montez is Campus Administrator for South Texas College Mid Valley. Daniel received his Bachelor of Business Administration at UT Austin and his Master’s in Business Administration from UT Brownsville. Previous to being Campus Administrator, Daniel has been teaching at South Texas College since 2000.

Additional Directors for the 2018-2019 year are: Luis Reyes, Magic Valley Electric Co-Op, Chair; Bobby Calvillo, Affordable Homes of South Texas, Vice Chair; Johnny Bautista, Friends Health Care, Immediate Past Chair; Corina Rodriguez, Weslaco Regional Rehabilitation Hospital, Treasurer; Jerry Gonzalez, Texas National Bank, Executive Board Member At Large; Mari Aviles, Valley Grande Institute for Academic Studies; Dr. Rene Lopez, Knapp Medical Center; Carla McCaleb, McCaleb Funeral Home; Travis McDaniel, Valley Trophies; Daniel Montez, South Texas College; Vangie Saenz, Inter National Bank; Daryl Smith, Smith Security Group; Gene Vaughan, Jones, Galligan, Key & Lozano, LLP and Ruben Villanueva, Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites.
