The McAllen Public Utility’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project is nearing completion with over 45,000 smart meters installed and the full swap out expected by the end of 2025. This initiative began in the fall of 2022 and is funded by an $18 million SWIFT Loan from the Texas Water Development Board. The project is set to deliver significant benefits for both McAllen Public Utility and its customers. These benefits include improved operational efficiency, enhanced system reliability, reduced water loss, streamlined meter reading and better demand forecasting. Customers will benefit by the use of a brand new portal which will give them greater control and transparency with their water system data. Things like early leak detection and more accurate billing will be tremendous benefits to rate payers and citizens.
