I said it in October 2019, and I made no mistake. Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez MD has been spectacular as mayor for the residents of Pharr Texas. He came precisely at a time when an individual of his magnitude was needed.

In October of 2019 we dedicated a front page and wrote an article titled “The unfolding transformation of a city”. What a great title for a great leader who has not lost his commitment and vision for forging a better future for Pharr and the region.

On January 29, 2022, the partners that created the Natatorium celebrated the official ribbon-cutting ceremony to declare this magnificent aquatic facility is open for business. The Natatorium is a prime example of a three-way commitment to sharing costs while seeking a shared goal. This partnership was in coordination with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District. A great example of how important things get accomplished when multiple entities put aside territorial tendencies and come together to deliver for the greater good. More in this issue.

I hope he is successful. Attorney General Ken Paxton filed comments urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to require U.S. telephone companies to curb abusive robocalls from foreign sources. Previously, the AG and 51 attorneys general successfully persuaded the FCC to shorten, by a year, the deadline for smaller telephone companies to implement similar protective measures regarding domestic robocalls.

Congratulations Rio Grande City! Buffalo Wings and Rings received a building permit from the Rio Grande City Planning Department. The valuation of the new building is $1.6 million, covering an area of 5,243 square feet.

The announcement and presentation of the award will be made during the TCMA Annual Conference in Cedar Creek, Texas.  Big applause!

Laredo, Texas – During a Special City Council meeting, the Laredo City Council selected Samuel Keith Selman as Interim City Manager. Selman will serve as Interim City Manager on a 10-month consulting contract. This 10-month period will allow the newly elected Mayor and Council Members from the November 2021 elections to participate in the selection of a new City Manager.
