EDINBURG, Texas – Edinburg City Councilmember Jason De Leon said Academy Award-nominated actor Terrence Howard visited the city on July 27, 2026, to discuss potential business ventures with city leaders, while also sharing his vision for emerging technologies and innovation.
“It was an incredible opportunity to spend time with Terrence Howard and hear his vision for the future,” De Leon told Texas Border Business.
According to City of Edinburg officials and local news reports, Howard met with city officials at Edinburg City Hall, where he received a proclamation declaring July 27, 2026, as Terrence Howard Day in the City of Edinburg. Officials have not publicly disclosed the specific business opportunities discussed during the visit.
Howard, an Academy Award-nominated actor known for his roles in Hustle & Flow, Crash, Iron Man, The Best Man, and Ray, thanked the city for its hospitality during the ceremony.
“There’s nothing greater than the hospitality of kind people… It’s a very welcoming city,” Howard said. He also described the genuine smiles, warmth and enthusiasm of Edinburg residents as qualities that “can’t be bought” or “faked,” adding that he found the city both welcoming and prosperous.
During the proclamation ceremony, a city representative announced that July 27, 2026, would officially be recognized as Terrence Howard Day in Edinburg. Howard said he was “blown away” by the recognition and recalled being warmly greeted upon arriving at the airport, where numerous people welcomed him.
The City of Edinburg also promoted the visit as part of its designation as a Film Friendly Texas community and as home to the South Texas International Film Festival. No film project involving Howard was announced.
De Leon said Howard discussed concepts involving drone technology designed to transport heavy equipment from one location to another.
“Whether these ideas ultimately become reality or evolve in new ways, it’s exciting to hear people thinking about what’s possible,” De Leon said.
He added that artificial intelligence, drones, automation and autonomous technology are rapidly shaping the future and said hearing Howard’s perspective on innovation was valuable.
“Thank you, Terrence, for taking the time to share your ideas,” De Leon said. “Conversations like these remind us how important it is to keep an open mind and continue embracing innovation.”
As of Wednesday, city officials had not announced any specific business project or investment resulting from Howard’s visit.
