Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Coahuila Governors to face COVID-19 together

The three border Governors will coordinate with Texas authorities in order to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

The Governors of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca; Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme, and Nuevo León, Jaime Rodríguez Calderón, signed joint agreements that will allow, in the immediate and short term, to cope with the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in these neighboring states.

The leaders agreed to carry out a technical justification to request a special budget from the Federal Government to face the contingency in addition to place standard measures and guidelines in schools, airports, recreational centers, parks, prisons, companies, and other areas and public buildings.

“In this way, these 3 states will be able to access the category of catastrophic expenses, which will allow us to provide better services in the health systems that we have in our states,” explained the Governor of Tamaulipas.

They will also establish an approach with Texas authorities to strengthen coordination and, coordinate and attend to migrants who are residing, mainly in camps, on the border with the United States.

“Among the 3 states, we have about 25 thousand migrants stationed on our border. In this sense, we make a respectful and energetic call to the National Institute of Migration in the matter of prevention against the Coronavirus with these people who camp in places and conditions that are not adequate”, said García Cabeza de Vaca.

Medical procedures will also be coordinated and information on the health infrastructure of each state will be exchanged, in addition to planning actions in specific and extraordinary situations, according to the progress of the disease.

The Health and Government officials of the state administrations of Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Coahuila were also present at the working meeting.
