Student Theatre Group Reaching New Heights … Literally

Kassie Zapata, a UTRGV junior from Donna, will be making her third appearance in Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Wednesday, July 4, at Coney Island, New York. The kinesiology major – ranked at No. 43 in the world by Major League Eating – will be competing for a third time in what has become one of the most unique annual sporting competitions in the world, as she once again faces off with the world’s top competitive eaters. UTRGV P-16 Outreach kicked off its Migrant University Summer Experience (MUSE) program in June with the students moving into UTRGV dorms. MUSE programs offers migrant students from across the Valley a chance to experience college life and further their education. Under the six-week program, students enroll in classes, receive on-campus housing and a meal plan, have access to select campus facilities, go on field trips and job shadow. (UTRGV Courtesy Photo)

UTRGV Alum Receives Fulbright to Study Female Micro-entrepreneurship in Nicaragua

Area students recently participated in team-building exercises and learned how to use new technology, like iPads, commonly in use in modern classrooms, during UTRGV’s Those Who Can, Teach program. The two weeklong summer camps hosted 60 high school students from Valley school districts, in activities designed to help high school students explore the possibilities of a career in education. UTRGV’s University Recreation (UREC) has been ranked in the Top 50 Best Campus Recreation Centers by CollegeConsensus.com. College and universities that make the list are ranked according to the individual College Consensus score, which is a combination of the results of reputable publisher ratings and student reviews. The UREC, which ranked 31 on the list, currently sees from 800 to 1,000 students per semester and provides services ranging from group exercises to aquatics to intramural sports.
